Secretly, Greatly

Secretly, Greatly is an action-packed comedy about three North Korean spies who are sent to a small village in South Korea, disguised as a village idiot, a musician, and a student. The three continue on with their disguise as they await new orders from the North Korean government. As they wait months and years, the three grow comfortable with their lives in the small village, until one day, a 'secret and great' mission is sent for them. The three spies face betrayal, partnership, and closer bonds as they work together to carry out the government's order.

Comedy in Korea is drastically different from comedy in America. The humor in this movie may not be what's normal in American movies, but it's lighthearted and eases the tension. However, what I find that Korean movies do well in is placing a definitive line between humor and seriousness. The mood in the first half of the movie will not be the same as the mood in the second half of the movie.

Although the latter half has almost no humor, those that love watching action scenes will be in for a treat, as this film has a ton, from chase scenes to gun shots to fist fights. The fight scenes are absolutely spectacular, and whether or not the actors had stunt doubles, you can tell that the moves were executed very well. Small warning, though, that there is blood in this movie, as well as people getting stabbed, shot, sliced, and more.

Overall, I would give this film 4 out of 5 stars. Secretly, Greatly is full of action, comedy, and suspenseful moments, making you wonder what will happen to the North Korean spies. "Will they die?" If you wonder the fate of these characters, I would definitely recommend checking this movie out. If you need another tug to try watching, there's some pretty decent eye-candy in this film. Click here to order it in Blu-ray.
