The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Hello Everyone! This weekend I finally had the opportunity to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I constantly came across the film but never made an attempt to sit down and actually watch it.  Let me tell you that I have been missing out! This film was simply outstanding in so many aspects. I was told the movie was great but then again people are always saying that about every movie. The plot twist the film presents is just spectacular! The movie is about Charlie who is a social outcast. It’s his first year in high school and he is lost until he encounters two seniors, Sam and Patrick, who introduce him to the “real world”. All three of these character possess a unique personality. This is primarily because they have had a significant event in their life that has shaped their character. Notably, Charlie is traumatized from an early event in his life. You can clearly see this is in his character. He understands people very well. In every occasion, he puts the happines...

Final Thoughts on Mean Girls

I honestly thought that it was just going to be another "teen" movie, and, frankly, I wasn't amazed  by it, but now, when anyone makes a reference, I can now say:
The accuracy about the halloween costumes is scary The look of utter disappointment and despair on Regina's Dad's face is heartbreaking
Wtf Karen? "On Wednesdays we wear pink" Why not purple? Or magenta? Why pink? "DANNY DEVITO I LOVE YOUR WORK" I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING

Secretly, Greatly

Secretly, Greatly is an action-packed comedy about three North Korean spies who are sent to a small village in South Korea, disguised as a village idiot, a musician, and a student. The three continue on with their disguise as they await new orders from the North Korean government. As they wait months and years, the three grow comfortable with their lives in the small village, until one day, a 'secret and great' mission is sent for them. The three spies face betrayal, partnership, and closer bonds as they work together to carry out the government's order. Comedy in Korea is drastically different from comedy in America. The humor in this movie may not be what's normal in American movies, but it's lighthearted and eases the tension. However, what I find that Korean movies do well in is placing a definitive line between humor and seriousness. The mood in the first half of the movie will not be the same as the mood in the second half of the movie. Although the la...

Kal Ho Na Ho

This week we are taking it back to a favorite movie of mine. When I say taking it back, I mean way back. Let's travel in time, back to 2003 to a classic Bollywood movie, Kal Ho Na Ho. Unfortunately I couldn't find a trailer that has English Subtitles, but I found one of my favorite scenes from the film. Kal Ho Na Ho is about a young woman, Naina, who often pessimistic and cynical about the world. She lives with her Mother, her two younger siblings, and her very traditional Grandmother. Her grandmother and mother are constantly at odds, with different opinions in traditions, religion, and philosophy, but what mother-in-law daughter-in-law pair do get along? Her Grandmother has made it her mission to find a good, normal, plain, Punjabi husband for her, which Naina continues to dismiss. Just when Naina thought her life couldn't get anymore hectic, in comes Aman, a positive and bubbly guy, totally the opposite of Naina. He completely turns her world upside down, but for the...

Gimme Shelter

Gimme Shelter (2013) Cast: Vanessa Hudgens, Brendan Fraser, Rosario Dawson, and Ann Dowd Director: Ron Krauss Vanessa Hudgens brings to this film a character much different than her previous work. The film Gimme Shelter is based on a true story. Vanessa Hudgens who plays “Apple” is a pregnant teenager who runs away from her abusive mother in search of her father with hopes of starting over. Along her journey she faces many obstacles until she find a kind person to help her find herself. Without any spoilers here is what you should expect. If you picked this movie because you’re a fan of Vanessa Hudgens, you’re in for a big surprise. We all know the Vanessa Hudgens from the High School Musical series. However, her character in this movie is radically different and unforeseen. Apple, who is played by Vanessa Hudgens, is rebellious, disrespectful and careless. She has jumped from home to home and her character represents her struggle. I was able to easily understand h...

The Terror Live

The Terror Live is a Korean movie about a once top news anchorman, Yoon Young Hwa, played by Ha Jung Woo, who gets demoted from prime time news to radio news. One morning, during one of his radio broadcasts, Yoon receives a call that threatens that a bridge (Mapo Bridge), located near the studio building, will be blown up if everyone does not do as the caller requests. The call is first taken as a prank call, so Yoon does nothing but dismiss him. However, Yoon and the people of Korea soon realize that the caller truly wants to terrorize. This movie is a suspense/thriller, and one of the things that I really think made this movie do so well is that the whole movie took place inside the broadcasting room (with a few short scenes located directly outside the studio building at the Mapo Bridge). Because the plot remains mostly in one room, it's dialogue-heavy. However, even when words aren't said, Ha's phenomenal acting will cause you to sit at the edge of your seat. Ther...

The DUFF

What do you get when a teen movie tries to be the new Mean Girls of this generation? You get a whole lot of cliches and sadness. The DUFF is a movie about a teenager Bianca (who seriously does not look like a teenager) who has been named the DUFF by a jock named Wesley. After being labeled a DUFF she tries her hardest to get rid of this title, and in the process she finds herself and what the meaning of life is (okay joking over here but it low key is). Having read the book, I was really disappointed with how different the plot was from the movie. From the trailers I could tell it was going to be different, and at first I was okay with that, but after watching it, the authors message just felt insignificant. The message was just stated throughout the movie, but I didn't really see them apply it to the film. What I liked about the book was that the message came about after Bianca has a revelation/epiphany about life. In the movie, it was stated from the beginning, which left no ...

Kingsman

Kingsman is a movie about an undercover spy ring that is independent from any government agency. the movie, overall, was amazing! 100% would watch gin! The entire film had a James Bond aura about it (seeing as it's a spy film and most of the actors are British and all). Director  Matthew Vaughn did an amazing job with the film. There were a few drawbacks, of course, but overall I would definitely recommend this movie to any action movie  aficionado. With Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Firth, and Michael Caine on cast, the film went from "I might want to see this movie" to "WHERE ARE MY KEYS WE'RE GOING TO THE MOVIES RIGHT NOW!!!" Kingsman is Colin Firth's very first action movie and I feel that he did an outstanding job in this role since he usually plays the uptight Englishman or romantic interest. I would honestly dare to say that this role is definitely a career changing role. This movie brings a twist on the usual action movie. in Kingsman, the comedy ...
