The DUFF

What do you get when a teen movie tries to be the new Mean Girls of this generation? You get a whole lot of cliches and sadness. The DUFF is a movie about a teenager Bianca (who seriously does not look like a teenager) who has been named the DUFF by a jock named Wesley. After being labeled a DUFF she tries her hardest to get rid of this title, and in the process she finds herself and what the meaning of life is (okay joking over here but it low key is).

Having read the book, I was really disappointed with how different the plot was from the movie. From the trailers I could tell it was going to be different, and at first I was okay with that, but after watching it, the authors message just felt insignificant. The message was just stated throughout the movie, but I didn't really see them apply it to the film. What I liked about the book was that the message came about after Bianca has a revelation/epiphany about life. In the movie, it was stated from the beginning, which left no impact on the audience.

The cinematography was pretty good though. I loved all the settings that the characters were in. Especially where Bianca takes Wesley to her special place. Honestly the cinematography is what saved the movie. The music also fit very well with the movie and I can't stop listening to all the songs from the movie.

Okay so I lied, the cinematography wasn't the thing that saved the movie. I got a lot of big laughs from watching the movie. My friend and I were laughing so hard that I'm really glad that the movie theater was empty and it was just us two. The reason why we were laughing: Cause it was so bad.

TL;DR: I give this movie 3 out 5 stars because if you want a good laugh, you should go ahead and watch it. If you've never read the book however, I think you would actually enjoy this film but if you have, be prepared for disappointment.
